Hello Mommies and Mommies to be! I am super excited that you have stopped by! My name is Shanika! I am a Maternal-Child registered nurse! I have been working in women and children’s health for over 15 years! In addition to being a maternal-child nurse, I’ve also worked in pediatric clinics in the historical Charity Hospital and in Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.

I’ve organized health education and youth sexual health advocacy programs for the New Orleans Women’s Health Clinic. I have current experience in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum in area hospitals. I’ve been working in the largest Family Birthing Center in my city since 2011, where I’ve done over 1, 000 deliveries and counting! I also teach a series of childbirth education and preparation classes and I LOVE it! Helping parents get ready for the unexpected brings me so much joy!

However, my most recent, most wonderful, and most hands-on experience has been my blessing of motherhood! In my personal experience, there were so many aspects of  pregnancy, labor, postpartum, infant care, and breastfeeding that even I, a maternal-child nurse, needed help with. I thought to myself, if I work in this field and know what info is needed and helpful to new mothers/parents, why not spread the love! I started off with a few “New Mommy” groups that were successful, but I knew there needed to be more. So here is Labor and Love!

Labor and Love is my new baby! I want to spread the love and assistance I so desperately needed to other mommies, because pregnancy is such a beautiful experience, but can be overwhelming without guidance. So here I am, inviting you to allow me to work with you through Labor and Love to ensure a supportive, health professional-led community before, during, and after your pregnancy. It is my sincere hope that I can provide proper education, preparation, support, and a bit of peace and sanity during the most beautiful moment in your life, bringing a life into the world!
